Our archive gives you an idea of our journey. We started in Folkestone to find Jocelyn Brooke and Daphne Du Maurier and Laurence Michael Dillon plus lots of queer writers who stayed at The Grand….

We then travelled across Romney Marsh to Rye where we enjoyed finding evidence of Radclyffe Hall, Henry James and EF Benson… other queer creatives were harder to find such as Ed Burra, Una Troubridge, Ethel Smyth…

We were excited to claim queer creatives associated with The Harlem Renaissance - we feel sure that 1920’s creatives in the UK were listening and dancing to Jazz and Blues music…we celebrated singers such as Bessie Smith, Ethel Waters and Josephine Baker this led us to writers such as Claude McKay and Langston Hughes
