Giles Round
Giles Round is an artist currently living in St Leonards-on-Sea with more-than-human companion Philip Seymour Hoffman Round. Following a year spent in an imaginary relationship with late artist Félix González-Torres, Round fled London during the mass exodus.
‘In the tradition of the shingle left on top of Derek Jarman’s headstone, the works presented at St Clement are all offerings to the dead. Drawn from Jarman’s life and Prospect Cottage, the mementos include a 6 metre hag-stone necklace, flowers from a nearby garden and a series of pictures portraying elements from Jarman’s autobiography ‘Dancing Ledge’. Oil-stick and watercolour on linen the series depicts: the landscape at Buggerru, Sardinia; a palm tree; Ambre Solaire & a Frisbee; Jeyes Fluid & Soda Crystals; Amyl & Baby Oil.’
